We visited first escape room in Maribor last weekend. We visited one room from Enigmarium company before, so we knew we were in for a treat – but our visit even exceeded our expectations!

First of all, the location of the room is quite nice. It’s easy to find, and clearly marked from outside. The reception looks ok, and the first impression of our room master was quite nice. She took her time to explain everything into details, and let us know what we were up against. After the introduction, we were ready to begin with the game.

The entry to the room is probably the best that we’ve seen so far. It’s far from the usual “okay, so walk in here and you can start”. You’ll have to visit them and see, but you’re really in for a nice surprise, and it’s only the beggining of what turned out to be one of the greatest escape room experiences we’ve had so far.

After entering the room, you are faced with many well connected, logical puzzles. Some of them were quite innovative, and it shows they tried to move away from the typical puzzles we usually see. We’ve only used a bit more time with the few of them, otherwise everything was very nicely prepared, and very logical. After spending a while in the room, you are in for a bit of a surprise – a part of the room actually takes place in the window display! It’s the first time we’ve seen something like it, and nothing beets the feeling when you are trying to do something, and a small crowd gathers outside and looks at you. It’s also not really a big part of the puzzle, so even if you see another group doing it, you don’t really know what’s going on until you’re doing it for yourself. Really, a great job at succeeding at making the room spoiler free and still implement the window display into the room itself.

Some of the puzzles are absolutely fantastic, and really work out so well. It’s just a nice surprise after the other. We can see that, maybe, you need a bit of knowledge for solving the puzzles (or they can take a bit longer than they would with that knowledge), so maybe some groups might have a bit of an issue with a puzzle or two. The game master is however, very alert and really works well to offer you help when (or if) you need it.

After we solved the last puzzle (it’s very nicely timed – we were only two people solving the room and got out just in time, which, with our experience, is perfect), we got one of the best debriefings we ever had. The game master really took her time, answered any questions we had (and even more), told us more about the props used and you could really see how much effort they put into making the room really well connected to the history of the city.

The only thing from letting us give a perfect 10 grade to the room is a few issues with the puzzles – as said, some people might need a bit more time for some of them (if they lack some knowledge), and some more techically advanced puzzles might not be perfect (we had to try one a couple of times before it worked, not sure if we were doing something wrong or were we just a bit unlucky – it didn’t take more than half a minute of our time though, so not a big deal at all).

Overall, a fantastic experience! We went there with relatively high expectations, and we were still pleasently surprised. We would definitely recommend this room to anyone visiting Maribor (or nearby cities). You won’t be disappointed!
